Expanded Biography
Dr. Warf began his career in pediatric neurosurgery at Children's Hospital Boston in 1991 as the first Pediatric Fellow in Neurological Surgery. In 2000, he and his family moved to Uganda to help found a hospital for pediatric neurosurgery with CURE International, a non-profit Christian medical mission organization. While at CURE, Dr. Warf served as Medical Director and established the only pediatric neurosurgery hospital in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Dr. Warf was the first to identify neonatal infection as the chief cause of pediatric hydrocephalus in a developing country and remains involved in working to uncover its pathogenesis in order to ultimately construct prevention strategies. He developed a novel surgical technique for treating hydrocephalus in infants, combining endoscopic third ventriculostomy with bilateral choroid plexus cauterization (ETV/CPC). Since returning to the United States, Dr. Warf has investigated the role of ETV/CPC in North American infants, and also continues to work in international neurosurgery development. He rejoined the team at Childrens Boston in 2009, and was appointed Director of Neonatal and Congenital Anomaly Neurosurgery.
