Expanded Biography

S. Jean Emans, M.D. is Professor of Pediatrics at the Harvard Medical School and Chief of the Division of Adolescent/Young Adult Medicine at the Children’s Hospital Boston, Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs, Department of Medicine, Co-Director of the Center for Young Women’s Health, and Director of the Office of Faculty Development at Children's Hospital Boston. She completed her undergraduate degree at Radcliffe College, her MD at Harvard Medical School, her internship and residency in Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital Boston, and a Fellowship in Adolescent Medicine at Children’s Hospital Boston. She is the Program Director of one of the seven Maternal Child Health Bureau (MCHB/HRSA) Leadership Education in Adolescent Health Training Programs in the U.S. She has served on the Board of Directors of the Society for Adolescent Medicine and as President of the North American Society of Pediatrics and Adolescent Gynecology. She is the author of several textbooks, including Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology (5th edition), three websites, www.pedicases.org, www.bostonleah.org and www.youngwomenshealth.org , a three volume Bright Futures Case Studies for primary care clinicians, and more than 100 articles that have focused on medical education, reproductive endocrinology, sexual abuse, contraception, and gynecology. She directs two Harvard CME courses: Adolescent Medicine, and Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology. She has lectured extensively on pediatric and adolescent gynecology and adolescent medicine nationally and internationally. She was honored with the 2006 American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Adele Dellenbaugh Hofmann Adolescent Health Award.
