Mininder S. Kocher, M.D., M.P.H., is the Associate Director of the Division of Sports Medicine at Childrens Hospital Boston and is a Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Kocher graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Dartmouth College where he was a member of the basketball and track and field teams. He graduated with honors from the Duke University School of Medicine. He completed orthopedic training in the Harvard Combined Orthopedic Residency Program at Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham & Womens Hospital, Childrens Hospital Boston, and Beth Israel Hospital. He completed a pediatric orthopedic fellowship at Childrens Hospital Boston, a sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery fellowship at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic (Vail, Colorado), and an Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) clinical research fellowship at the Harvard School of Public Health. Clinically, Dr. Kochers practice specializes in pediatric, adolescent, and adult sports medicine. He is a well-recognized international expert in pediatric sports medicine. He has particular interests in anterior cruciate ligament injuries in skeletally immature patients, osteochondritis dissecans, articular cartilage injuries, tibial spine fractures, shoulder instability, shoulder arthroscopy, little league elbow, hip arthroscopy, hip labral tears, patellofemoral instability, meniscal injuries, and ankle instability. He performs 600-700 operations annually and sees over 100 patients weekly in clinic. He is referred patients nationally and internationally. He lectures locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. He is the head team physician for Babson College, Northeastern University, and the Boston Public School Sports Medicine Initiative. He is a physician for the Boston Ballet, the US Ski Team, USA Track and Field, the Boston Marathon, and US Figure Skating. He has been elected to the elite sports medicine societies: The Herodicus Society and The ACL Study Group. He has been recognized as one of Americas Top Physicians by the Consumers Research Council of America, Best of Boston by Boston Magazine, Best Doctors in America by Best Doctors Inc., Americas Top Doctors by Castle Connolly, Best Doctors in America by US News and World Report, and is listed in Marquis Whos Who in America and Whos Who in the World. He has been interviewed by the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, USA Today, Scientific American, ESPN, and the CBS Evening News. In terms of research, Dr. Kocher is a renown orthopaedic health services researcher. He has performed seminal research in septic arthritis of the hip in children, the development and validation of outcome instruments, anterior cruciate ligament injuries, osteochondritis dissecans, tibial eminence fractures, discoid lateral meniscus, shoulder instability, and child abuse. Dr. Kocher has published over 130 peer-reviewed scientific articles, over 50 book chapters, and 4 textbooks. Dr. Kocher has presented over 300 papers at major national and international meetings and has been a visiting professor at numerous institutions nationally and internationally. Dr. Kocher won the 2005 American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS)/ OREF Kappa Delta Award/ Clinical Research Award, the highest research honor in orthopaedics. In addition, he has won the Angela M. Kuo Memorial Award of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA), the Clinical Research Award of the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), the Vernon Thompson Award of the Western Orthopaedic Association, the Clinical Research Award of the Eastern Orthopaedic Association, and the Richard Kilfoyle Award of the New England Orthopaedic Association. Administratively, Dr. Kocher is the Associate Director of the Division of Sports Medicine at Childrens Hospital Boston. He is very involved with numerous professional organizations.
