Dr. Kunkel received his PhD degree in biology from the Johns Hopkins University and completed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of California, San Francisco and at Children's Hospital Boston. He is an investigator in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. His recent honors include the Charles A. Dana Distinguished Research in Neuroscience Award.
