Limited services resumed in the wake of COVID-19

Boston Children’s has recently resumed limited appointments at Boston Children’s at Peabody and Boston Children’s Physicians Weymouth to supplement services currently provided at our Longwood and Waltham locations. For now, patients will be seen, as determined by their Boston Children’s clinical team, for urgent, time-sensitive, and other medically necessary services. Additionally, we are still encouraging families to schedule routine vaccinations and well-visits, as these are essential to your child’s continued health and development.

All visits are currently by appointment only, and we cannot accept walk-in visits - this includes even appointments for blood draws and radiology.

These are our first steps in the process of ramping up our services, and as we move forward, our absolute top priority is ensuring the safety of our patients, families, and staff.

What to expect during your appointment

The safety of our patients, families and staff has always been our highest priority. Boston Children’s follows strict infection control recommendations, and to further reduce the risk of COVID-19, we have added some additional measures to keep our environment as safe as possible.

When you’re preparing for your next appointment, please be aware of the following changes:

Arrival and screening

  • Please practice social distancing as much as possible in all common areas of the lobby and waiting room, including while registering at the front desk.
  • Please limit the size of your group to your child (the patient) and two or fewer adults. Please do not bring siblings or friends under 18.
  • All families will be screened for symptoms of illness on arrival and we will provide you with ear-loop face masks. One of our clinicians will ask you if you have had symptoms or been exposed to anyone with COVID-19.
  • Avoid touching your face or your mask, and be sure to wash your hands often in case you forget.

During treatment

  • After your initial screening we ask that, when possible, only one adult enter the exam area with your child.
  • All of our staff will be wearing face masks, and your child’s clinicians may also be wearing protective eyewear and gowns. This is for the protection of all our patients and families, as well as the protection of our clinicians and staff.

Stay in touch through My Children’s: Our patient portal

Our patient portal, MyChildren’s at Boston Children’s, has always provided families with added convenience and enhanced access to information, but it’s also now helping to make your visit safer. The safest and easiest way to keep in touch with your care team is through our online patient portal, MyChildren’s at Boston Children’s. MyChildren’s can help you pre-check in for your appointment and securely message with our staff. You’ll have electronic access to your results and visit notes as soon as they’re available. You can even manage payment online, so you don’t have to hand anyone a credit card. For patients and families seeing us in person, this will help reduce the amount of time you’ll spend in our waiting rooms. If you aren’t using the portal yet, please call our MyChildren’s support line at (617) 919-4396, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. (excluding holidays) for help registering.

Thank you for your support and patience during this period of extra precautions. We value your confidence and continued partnership and look forward to welcoming you back as our patients, neighbors, and friends.
