As of August 10, 2016, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are recommending a voluntary recall of all liquid medication products manufactured by PharmaTech and distributed by: Rugby, Major, Bayshore, Metron, Centurion, and Virtus. This voluntary recall affects many liquid medications and the complete list may be found at the FDA website.

These liquid medications manufactured by PharmaTech may be linked to a recent outbreak of a bacterial infection (Burkholderia cepacia) in multiple states, which the CDC and FDA are investigating. Boston Children’s Hospital has informed our health care providers to seek alternative manufacturers for these liquid medications. If you or your child is using one of these medications on the complete list linked above, or have a prescription for it, please contact your primary care doctor.

Please note that this information was very recently announced and, as a result, your providers may not be aware of this issue. For more information, visit the CDC website using links below. We encourage you to share this information.

Additional information is available on the CDC website

We are grateful to have been ranked #1 on U.S. News & World Report's list of the best children's hospitals in the nation for the third year in a row, an honor we could not have achieved without the patients and families who inspire us to do our very best for them. Thanks to you, Boston Children's is a place where we can write the greatest children's stories ever told.”
