Have you and your children received your flu shots yet? If not, it’s important to get them as soon as possible — especially this year.
Yes. Any current or past Boston Children’s patient (e.g. a patient with a medical record number), may attend one of the patient flu clinics. Our approach to patient flu clinics is different this year out of a need to maintain social distancing and to adhere to COVID-related infection prevention precautions.
Two of the most significant changes this year are that most flu vaccine visits will need to be scheduled and that we will offer a drive-up option for receiving the flu vaccine.
At our drive-up flu vaccine clinics, the patient, and any parent(s) or other car occupants, will stay in their car, and remain masked for the entire visit. All drive-up visits must be scheduled in advance.
On arrival to the drive-up clinic, staff will screen the patient for COVID symptoms from outside the car and then direct them to a parking place. The registered nurse will administer the vaccine by either opening the door next to the patient or reaching through the window. The patient should wear short sleeves and no coat. Younger patients (those who not yet walking) should wear shorts.
