Survey Development and Validation

Developing and Evaluating Surveys and Measures in Health Sciences

This 2 day course will cover:

  •  The principles of item development
  •  The principles of instrument and scale construction
  •  How to evaluate reliability and internal consistency in measurement
  •  How to evaluate various types of validity (e.g., content, construct, discriminant, convergent, and divergent) in measurement
  •  How to evaluate the psychometric properties of a scale/instrument/survey using statistical software

Target Audience: Designed for principle investigators, co-investigators, fellows, and graduate students with an interest on developing and evaluating surveys. Prior statistical background is required at the level of understanding linear regression analysis.
